LexiconDon “December Sunset”
June 29th, 2010 · Uncategorized

A few months back we gave LexiconDon some serious credit, and here they are again with a new release, “December Sunset” off the upcoming debut, Pink + Blue. These four boys from Silverlake are making some damn good music for east side LA to champion. Look for the full-length album coming in August, “December Sunset” is just a sneak peak.

Nikki Lynn Katt and tons more stand-up, sketch and music comedians crash songwriters’ haven for “Hotel Comedy Night”
When offered the opportunity to write a preview of tonight’s first-ever “Hotel Comedy Night” at the Hotel Cafe, I instantly immersed myself in research: does this event have its own Facebook page? Of course it does. Are there a bunch of confirmed guests? Check. Of those confirmed guests, how many are hot, young and potentially single women? Jackpot!
So, obviously, the gig’s legit. And after taking an extended break to befriend said hotties, I also came across some information that would suggest the comedy’s going to be pretty stellar tonight as well. Show host Nicole Aimée — so far the only hottie who has accepted my friend request, but it’s early — told me that “Hotel Comedy Night” is one of the only places in L.A. where you can see top-of-the-line live music comedy, sketch comedy and stand-up comedy all in one spot. “Comedy comes in so many forms,” she said. “We wanted to incorporate other types of comedy like sketch, and in order to stay true to the Hotel’s roots we thought musical comedy would be a nice touch, too.”
Heading up the musical portion of the festivities will be naughty funnygirl Nikki Lynn Katt. Fresh off a second successful tour of Australia (they love a good musicomic down there), Katt will perform selections from her newly released Hello, My Name Is Nikki Lynn Katt as well as new material she worked up in Oz. A video for one of the new tunes, “The Sock Song,” was just posted to YouTube and is at 10,187 hits and counting; it chronicles the merciless raping of an obnoxious neighbor’s wayward sock, and features cameos from some extremely attractive soap stars and an expertly utilized shepherd’s cane (don’t ask, just watch).
My first exposure to NLK online was her video for “This Halloween,” which got half a million hits on MySpace Videos and received solid airplay on Fuse and MTV — it was even played annually on TRL “until MTV decided to stop playing music videos,” said Katt. Her live set also includes songs like “Heartbroken Vagina,” which recently managed to get a Sydney disc jockey suspended, and “Don’t Forget About the Balls” (did you know iTunes won’t let you say “balls” or “vagina” in your song titles? I guess I get balls, but my goodness, vagina’s an accepted anatomical term, people…). And come prepared to learn a little something, as one of Katt’s passions is sex ed, which she wittily doles out in the form of public service announcements peppered throughout her show. And then on top of all that…the songs are actually quite catchy!
Katt’s certainly not the only heavy hitter appearing at the Hotel tonight: Chappelle’s Show co-creator Neal Brennan, Andy Kaufman Award-winner Brent Weinbach, and plenty of folks who have appeared on all the big-time comedy outlets — Comedy Central, HBO, Funny or Die Presents, late shows, sitcoms, random blogs I’ve never heard of — will be slingin’ the funny. Don’t miss it — unless you’re a single guy looking for a hot single girl. Then, well…miss it. –Dean Moore
